CHAPTER 18

After spending an hour on the phone, Holly finally knew what she had to do to make things right. She’d set a plan in place and hoped that everyone would be on board.

“So, what do you think?” Holly asked.

“Does it mean you will own part of it?” Rita asked.

“No. Basically, I’d be purchasing it from you and you’d be giving it to Jackson as a gift from yourselves.

“This is no Christmas gift, Holly. This is a big deal,” Victor stated. “Where did you get the money for this?”

“That’s not polite, Victor!” Rita scolded.

“It’s fine. I don’t have much of a life, and I’ve been working since I was ten-years-old. I do pretty well for myself, so this is how I’m choosing to spend my money.”

“I just hope you didn’t waste away your savings for us.” Victor put his hand over his heart.

“Not at all. Do you think Jackson will be happy? He finally gets to achieve his dreams,” Holly said, feeling concerned.

“I’m not sure how he’ll feel, to be honest. I do know it was important to him that he work toward this on his own. He’s been so kind to us, working for peanuts, because he knew times were tough,” Rita said.

“That’s why it’s so perfect. He doesn’t even need to know it’s from me. You can tell him you found the missing money if you want, or that you got a loan. Actually, I prefer it that way. I’d rather he not know I had anything to do with this,” Holly admitted.

“Does a restaurant really cost this much to purchase?” Victor asked. “If I had known that, I’d have considered selling it years ago!”

Holly laughed. “Well this isn’t just a gift for Jackson.”

“What do you mean?” Rita asked, tilting her head.

“Just trust me.”

“We don’t know what to say,” Rita replied, exchanging a look with her husband.

“Say yes, and that you’ll help with the party!”

“The party?” Victor and Rita asked in unison.

“I have a few tricks up my sleeve. Let’s take a walk to the restaurant, and you’ll see what I mean.” Holly linked her arms with theirs, and pulled them toward the door.
